How we work

Bring people together around a useful agricultural question.

Forums open the conversation. Technical visits make it tangible. Research and institutional dialogue bring different expertise to the same issue. WFA’s history connects these formats across agricultural economies.

01

Give a shared concern a wider table.

The Global Farmers Forum brings agricultural organizations, researchers and enterprises into a common setting. Its editions have connected the digital economy and modern agriculture in Yiwu, food security and trade in Guangzhou, and agricultural cooperation in Limassol. The Vientiane and Macao sessions in November 2025 added sustainable production, digital trade and green logistics.

The Global Summit on Sustainable Agriculture provides a separate, focused series. Singapore, Hainan and Anhui connected food security with technology, investment, environmental responsibility and farmer perspectives. These different settings allow participants to exchange experience, compare concerns and identify where a more detailed conversation would be valuable.

02

Study the work where it happens.

A visit puts a discussion into its operating context. Around the Limassol forum, vineyard visits connected agricultural products with processing, local identity and rural tourism. The April 2026 Bengbu programme took participants into agricultural processing and bio-based materials. Equipment, facilities and the people using them gave the exchange a practical reference.

Technical visits are most useful when a clear question guides them. Following the product through handling, equipment and delivery reveals how a method works within its setting. Skills, maintenance and local conditions shape whether that method can travel. Understanding the whole process helps participants distinguish a promising idea from a technique that fits their own agricultural setting.

03

Put science beside agricultural experience.

The Agricultural University of Athens seminar on 7 November 2024 brought crop systems, soil salinity and olive cultivation into the same programme as product research and cooperative enterprise. Scientists and businesses discussed different stages of agricultural value creation. The exchange connected questions in cultivation with knowledge about quality, production organization and markets.

Qingdao Agricultural University’s Cyprus account adds agricultural mechanization to that record. Its delegation presented research and discussed technical cooperation. WFA’s research dialogue values this connection between tested knowledge and practical needs: explain the method, understand the conditions and listen to the people whose work it could change.

04

Connect expertise with the people who can act on it.

Agricultural cooperation often crosses several responsibilities. Farmer organizations understand local priorities. Universities bring research and education. Chambers and enterprises understand commercial relationships. Public institutions help frame the conditions in which production and trade take place. A productive discussion makes each contribution and the agricultural question clear.

In Phnom Penh on 26 March 2024, a delegation’s business-chamber exchange focused on processing and supply chains. In Macao the following year, the conversation extended to trade information, cold chains and finance. These encounters show how institutional dialogue can connect agricultural concerns with the wider systems that influence them.

05

Keep the purpose visible after the meeting.

A useful exchange creates a clearer understanding of the issue and of who can contribute to it. Follow-up begins with a specific subject, the people responsible for continuing the conversation and the information they need. A research discussion, a technical visit and a commercial introduction will each have a different next step.

Our meeting and coverage archive preserves the places, topics and published accounts behind this work. It allows a new participant to understand earlier conversations and find a relevant starting point. Cooperation builds through that continuity: return to the agricultural question, share what has been learned and choose the next format that will help.
