Governance & responsibility

Trust begins with clear responsibility.

An agricultural banking mission requires independent governance, disciplined controls and accountable decisions.

01

Define who can decide, and on what basis.

Institutional governance separates strategic direction, management responsibilities and independent oversight. Delegated authority should specify what may be approved, under what conditions and when a decision must be escalated.

The design of WAB must bring agricultural knowledge into a financial institution with its own credit, compliance and risk responsibilities.

02

Build controls into the work.

Controls are most useful when they remain close to the customer, transaction and decision.

Credit discipline

Purpose, repayment source, conditions and monitoring for each exposure.

Compliance

Customer verification, sanctions, financial-crime controls and applicable requirements.

Operational resilience

Continuity, information security, vendor oversight and incident response.

Environmental & social risk

Attention to land, water, labour, biodiversity and affected communities.

03

Automation must preserve accountability.

AI-supported work needs recorded sources, appropriate access and reviewable outputs. A system must be able to show how a recommendation was formed and who approved the resulting action.

Efficiency is a design objective. Accountability is an institutional requirement.
